double entry... becuase i just posted the same story on our team blog.
Actually this is not gonna be a team stuff. But this is a really interesting experience here, so I will just post it here.
Today we went to Harajuku and Shibuya for shopping and experiencing. And at Shibuya we ended up shopping and walking separately because some of the people needed to return to Ichikawa earlier. So, I just went myself near the station so that I would not get lost. But what’s interesting was that, I got lost in the station!
So, a little prerequisite for this story. I am originally form Taiwan. Actually I spent 23 years in Taiwan. In Taiwan, as long as you get into a MRT station, you are just safe, and you would not be worried too much because you could get tickets, directions, whatever inside the station. BUT in Tokyo, NO! There are different lines, different systems with different maps. You even need to get tickets in different places in different systems. For me, this super new comer to Tokyo, I thought I would be ok because I can read the Kenji there. I would not get lost, as long as I know how I got there. But things just would not work out that way.
I went to the wrong station, staring at the wrong map, lining up before the wrong ticket seller (a machine). I wandered there for around 20 minutes and decided to just go, and see what would happen. So I lined up. However, when it was my turn, I just felt so uncomfortable to put my coins into the machine! So I turned to the girl after me, and asked her how to get to Ichikawa in English. She could not speak any English at all, and had no clue how to get to Ichikawa. She stared at the wrong map too (haha), and puzzled. But she’s sooooo nice and patient. I was gonna give up and asked the information center, because I might be wasting her time. But she’s so patient, and kept telling me it’s ok. So, following my intuition, I showed her the bigger map where I can find some other cities on my way home. Then, she checked with her cellphone (Japanese really have good cellphones, and all the information and network in it!), and confirmed that yes I was right. The only thing was that, I got to the wrong line!! So she, always using Japanese, told me that I should go to Gizo sen and get the ticket. Yes, and once I got there in Gizo Sen, I knew what should do…..
That was such a fun experience. Actually I was sooo nervous, because I thought I was gonna miss the dinner. : P (I guess I am always calmed when getting lost.) Anyways, thank the lord that I met such a nice girl who was willing to help me. I kept bowing and saying Arigatoo Gozaimasu and Sumimasen, but those really could not express my gratitude that well!
